  • Tiền thân là trường nông nghiệp Gwangju năm 1909, thành lập ngày 9 tháng 6 năm 1952. Ngày nay, CNU phát triển lớn mạnh gồm 14 trường thành viên, 1 graduate school, 6 trường graduate đặc biệt, 54 phòng nghiên cứu với trang thiết bị hiện đại. CNU nhận khoảng 30000 sinh viên Hàn và hơn 200 sinh viên quốc tế.
CNU, là đại diện của các trường đại học ở Gwangju và tỉnh Jeonnam, đứng thứ 5 trong các trường đại học quốc gia về lĩnh vực nghiên cứu, và trong top 10 số lượng các bài báo đăng trên SCI (chẳng biết SCI là gì nữa). Một số lĩnh vực học thuật có ở trường được chính phủ đầu tư như công nghệ thông tin (IT), công nghệ sinh học, văn hóa nghệ thuật, kỹ nghệ hóa học. trường có nhiều chương trình học bổng cho sinh viên trên tòan thế giới.
Trường có 2 campus bao gồm Yosu campus và Gwanju campus.

Gwanju campus:
